Top 10 Longboard Skateboard Wheels
Longboard wheels are designed for different types of riding. Some wheels are more suitable for cruising; others work well with downhill or racing. There are several factors that affect how wheels perform, including grip, slide, hardness and shape. The performance of a particular wheel also depends on the weight of the skater and the type of board and truck to which the wheel is attached.
Generally, softer wheels grip the ground better while harder wheels have more slide potential. When choosing a wheel, the first thing to decide is if you want to slide or cruise more easily. Any type of wheel can be made to do both, but it is much easier to choose the right wheel if you know how you will be using your board. For surf cruising, a soft wheel with a hard edge that grips the ground is ideal. Hardness is measured in durometer; an 80a durometer wheel supports 160 pounds of body weight to keep the board gripped to the road fairly easily. For downhill skating, a softer wheel gives better speed, but for downhill freeriding, a harder wheel with a rounded edge may work better.
